"1984" DVD a Best-Seller in Italy
May 15, 2008The new Decca/Universal Music release of "1984" on DVD was the best-selling new music DVD on the national charts in Italy for the week ending May 12, 2008, entering the Top 10 list at No. 6, ahead of releases by Pink Floyd, Queen and Jethro Tull. This is a remarkable and almost certainly unprecedented sale performance for a contemporary opera recording.

Maestro Maazel's first opera is completing a run of seven performances at La Scala, Milan, where it has been warmly embraced by critics and public alike. The DVD release, which is or will soon be available in other territories worldwide, is a deluxe two-disc set with an exclusive 30-minute introduction to the opera by the composer.
