Holiday Season Whirlwind: Spain, Italy and Israel
Dec 18, 2006While many around the world take a holiday break, Maestro Maazel continues to pursue a daunting but invigorating schedule of performances. As the remaining performances of Don Giovanni at the Palau de les Arts continue through December 30, he is shuttling back and forth to Italy and Israel for several different programs, with two different orchestras. He and the Symphonica Toscanini give concerts in Bergamo, Rome and Seville, previewing the repertoire for their American tour in January 2007.
Maestro Maazel also returns to the podium of the Israel Philharmonic, with which he has had a close relationship for many years. His concert on December 24 is one of the centerpiece events of the orchestra's 70th anniversary festival, celebrating the IPO's founding in 1936 (as the Palestine Orchestra).
