Maestro Maazel on Tour: Europe and Morocco
May 25, 2007Maestro Maazel returned to Avery Fisher Hall last week after a fourteen-city tour with the New York Philharmonic in Europe. Concerts were given in Warsaw, Budapest, Vienna, Frankfurt, Manheim, Cologne, Paris and Luxembourg. Energetic as ever, Mo. Maazel found time on a day off to fly to Rome, give a special concert for the European Union of Beethoven's Ninth with the Symphonica Toscanini, and fly back to Vienna the next day to rejoin the Philharmonic. Repertoire on the tour included Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra, Brahms' Violin Concerto and Stravinsky's Firebird Suite. Violinist Julia Fischer joined the tour for several performances.
In just a little over a week, Mo. Maazel departs once again to give a concert in Milan with the Filarmonica della Scala, followed by two concerts of Verdi's Requiem with Symphonica Toscanini in Morocco, one in Fes and the other in Casablanca. He will also spend several days rehearsing La Traviata, in preparation for the production at Teatro alla Scala, opening on July 3 at 8:00 PM.
