Symphonica Toscanini US Tour & Avery Fisher Hall Gala
Jan 16, 2007Tonight, Lorin Maazel and the Symphonica Toscanini, several concerts in to their coast-to-coast American tour, mark the 50th anniversary of Arturo Toscanini's passing with a joint concert with the New York Philharmonic at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center. The German bass René Pape is the soloist, replacing an indisposed Renée Fleming, for the concert, presented by the Philharmonic and Casa Verdi. Proceeds from the gala evening are to benefit the establishment of the Arturo Toscanini Associate Conductor's Chair, the first such permanent recognition of the great Italian maestro, one of the Philharmonic's former music directors.
From New York Maestro Maazel and the Symphonica Toscanini head to Chicago for an Orchestra Hall concert and several others in the Midwest and then on to California, for two programs at the new Segerstrom Hall in Orange Country and the final tour program at Zellerbach Hall at the University of California, Berkeley. See the calendar for full details of the tour programs, which feature repertoire that comprised many of Toscanini's own programs in the course of his historic American tours (1920-21 and 1950).
